"Shogun" Mauricio Rua Training With Karate Icon Glaube Feitosa For Rematch With Lyoto Machida

"Shogun" Mauricio Rua Training With Karate Icon Glaube Feitosa For Rematch With Lyoto Machida

Fighters.com’s third-ranked light heavyweight “Shogun” Mauricio Rua (18-4) is training with Kyokushin karate icon “Brazilian Warrior” Glaube Feitosa, according to Tatame.

Rua told Tatame, “Glaube is a guy who comes from karate and I am very honored to have him in our academy. It is a privilege, I think he is the best in Brazil. At heavyweight, he was the guy who most represented Brazil abroad. Everyone here at the academy is a fan of his.  Glaube is living in Curitiba and is with us for two months. We already were fans of the guy before this. The guy is an extraordinary person, super humble. He has a lot to help the people there in the gym. It’s an asset to the academy.”

Rua is scheduled to rematch Fighters.com and UFC Light Heavyweight Champion “Dragon” Lyoto Machida (16-0) at UFC 113 in Montreal May 8.  Machida is a karate stylist, though not from the Kyokushin tradition like Feitosa.

Machida beat Rua in a controversial five-round unanimous decision at UFC 104 in Los Angeles last October.

Scott Jorgenson Replaces Injured Damacio Page on WEC 48 PPV

Scott Jorgenson Replaces Injured Damacio Page on WEC 48 PPV

Due to an injury “The Angel of Death” Damacio Page (10-5) has been forced to withdraw from his fight with Antonio Banuelos (17-5) at the WEC 48 pay-per-view next month. Stepping in to replace him will be none other than “Young Guns” Scott Jorgenson (8-2).

WEC 48 will take place April 24 and is the very first WEC pay-per-view. This fight between Scott and Antonio will be the first fight of the televised portion of the fight card.

Many may remember that these two have already gone to war once before at WEC 41 where Antonio came out on the better end of a split-decision. This fight was in the running for fight of the year as it was an absolute war.

Since then Jorgenson has pulled the hat trick with three consecutive wins including a fight at WEC 45 that earned him “Fight of the Night” honors.

Scott joined myself and Gary Friedman on MMA Gospel Radio Episode 28 back in January and told us he thought he had won that fight. He stated that during the first exchange he got hit right on the eye and it effected his vision and he believes he lost the first round but after that he took control of the fight. He also said “I learned a lot from that fight” I learned to stick to my strategy and to not get drawn in and fighting with emotions”

If Jorgenson comes back to avenge his previous loss he very well could be in line for the next shot at the title.

This is a fight all fans should be excited see after watching the first one and seeing the improvement from Scott in his fights since then. If Scott can stick to his game plan of mixing up the striking with his wresting we should be in for a real treat to start off the pay-per-view.

Brock Lesnar: ‘I’m stronger and faster than I was before’ (Video)

Brock Lesnar Interview from the Arnold Classic Show (via DymatizeMarketing) earlier this month. Lesnar was handing out autographs and had a rare interview with Butch Peterson from Muscle Development. Brock talks about his recovery development and use of supplements to help get him back to the Octagon.

By the sounds of it Brock could be ready sooner than summer and there hasn’t been much on the development of how he was recovering (and very few interviews since the Canadian health care comments), so it’s nice to see one of MMA’s biggest stars will be back stronger and faster than ever!!

Be worried ABM, be very worried!

Jon Jones The Evolution of Look-See-Do

Jon Jones The Evolution of Look-See-Do
Thomas Gerbasi, UFC - Jon Jones stood in the Octagon on the night of December 5, 2009, disappointed, but with his head held high. There would be no whining, no complaining, no angry outbursts after his disqualification loss against Matt Hamill, though he probably would have been justified on all three counts.

Strikeforce's Jake Shields to Explore Free Agency

Strikeforce's Jake Shields to Explore Free Agency

Fighters.com second-ranked middleweight and current Strikeforce champion Jake Shields (24-4-1) will be a free agent on April 17 regardless of if he wins or loses his next fight.

That next fight will be his first title defense and comes against high profile Strikeforce import “Hendo” Dan Henderson (25-7). Typically we see organizations use the “champion clause” in contracts to keep their investments with them once they become a champion.

Shields told MMA Junkie that his fight with Hendo is in fact his final obligation on his Strikeforce contract.

This leaves him in a very unique position. When Jake appeared on MMA Gospel Radio with myself and Gary Friedman, who mentioned that he really wanted a chance to fight Fighters.com and UFC welterweight champion “Rush” Georges St. Pierre (19-2). Georges has stated that he would also welcome a fight with Shields as he feels that he is one of the best in the world.

Shields has recently been a coach on the soon to air UFC program The Ultimate Fighter 11 which leaves many to wonder if this is a step towards him heading to the UFC to get bigger fights with some of the top fighters in the world.

Obviously Jake would like to test the waters to see what he is actually worth on the open market. This could be a tool he can use to get a bigger contract with Strikeforce. The UFC can make him an offer and he could allow Strikeforce to counter if he decides he really wants to stay there.

However there are a few problems with all of this. First, he has to face Henderson before becoming a free agent and a loss would dramatically drop his stock on the market. However, even with a loss the UFC may decide to strike and make him an offer that Strikeforce just can’t match. After all, Dana White seems to love to kick Strikeforce any chance he gets and this would be a Shogun style kick if he can steal Shields.

Even more of a kick in the pants to Strikeforce would be if Shields were to beat Hendo and then leave for the UFC. This would leave them without a champion and one less fighter that they can use to promote big fights. He has been a cornerstone of many of the major cards they have put on to date.

This is without a doubt a very high risk, high reward for Shields and I know all of us will be watching to see just how this unfolds.

Gonzaga’s team disagrees with underdog tag, hopes to earn title look at UFC on Versus 1

Gonzaga’s team disagrees with underdog tag, hopes to earn title look at UFC on Versus 1
For the first time since he shocked the world with a head-kick knockout
of Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, Gabriel Gonzaga walks
into the octagon as an underdog.

Gonzaga, who on Sunday faces the heavily hyped Junior Dos Santos at UFC on Versus 1 in Broomfield, Colo., shrugs off the
label. In his mind, if Gonzaga takes out the young lion, he’s in
spitting distance of title contention.

“I think if I beat him, I’m going to be much closer to the title shot
than him,” Gonzaga told MMAjunkie.com on Friday.

Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight newcomer Julio Paulino is on a mission to make something happen.

Of the 110 kids that graduated from his high school in Jersey City, N.J., he estimated all but six are working at supermarket ShopRite, in jail or dead. He managed to escape by joining the Navy and did eight years as a machinist on ships at sea.

At first, fighting was a way to stay out of trouble after the Navy discharged him. Now, he’s fighting to support four kids, and after five-plus years in the minor leagues, the time to make his mark has arrived.

Here We Go Again: UFC Banned From German TV

Here We Go Again: UFC Banned From German TV

(Don’t do it, Paul! Think of all the impressionable German children! Photo courtesy of Fight Magazine.)

Those wacky Germans are at it again, Potato Nation. It wasn’t enough that the UFC had to put up with all manor of ill-informed, reactionary nonsense when they held their first event in Germany last summer. Oh, no. Now they’ve been banned from German TV for the “unacceptable” level of violence in their broadcasts. Since the UFC has been broadcasting on German sports television channel DSF for roughly a year, it seems odd that they’d be banned only now, especially when their programming is completely unchanged. That’s pretty much the exact position of UFC UK president Marshall Zelaznik, who told Sherdog.com:

“The Bavarian state office for new media has approved UFC programming on DSF twice on separate occasions in the past,” said Zelaznik. “That is why we deem the sudden ban unusual as the content of our programming has not changed. We have also had a commission for youth protection in the media review the situation and they deemed the broadcast legal if televised after 11 p.m.”

So what’s Germany’s problem with MMA, you ask? Well, aside from a vague belief that it will somehow damage the minds of their youth, they also seem really hung up on the whole ‘hitting a man when he’s down’ thing. In its statement explaining the UFC ban, the BLM (which, in German, apparently stands for Bavarian state office for new media) cited certain “breach of taboos” such as “punching a downed opponent.” Also, remember that article from Der Spiegel describing the Brock Lesnar-Randy Couture bout:
